What is TypeBuddy?

TypeBuddy is your privacy-first AI typing assistant featuring:

Quick Setup

System Requirements

  • macOS 13.0 Ventura or higher
  • Apple Silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3, etc.) - Intel Macs are not supported
  • 4GB RAM (8GB recommended for larger models)
  • 0.4-2.5GB storage space (depending on AI models)
  • Flexible Processing - works with both local and cloud AI models based on your privacy preferences

Installation

  1. ⬇️ Download - Visit our download link to download the latest version of TypeBuddy
  2. 📦 Install - Unzip the .zip file and drag TypeBuddy to Applications
  3. 🚀 Launch - Open from Applications folder (click "Open" if prompted)

First-Time Setup

TypeBuddy will guide you through a simple 3-step setup process:

  1. 🛡️ Grant System Permissions

    • 🔒 Accessibility Access - Click "Grant" button in TypeBuddy to open System Preferences
    • ⌨️ Input Monitoring - Click "Grant" button to enable TypeBuddy in your input sources

  2. 🤖 Download AI Model

    • Go to the Model tab in TypeBuddy
    • Choose and download your preferred AI model (Nano, Lite, Pro, or Apple Intelligence)

  3. ⚙️ Enable AI Features

    • Toggle the "Enable AI Features" switch in the General tab
    • TypeBuddy will show "Setup Complete" when ready

Using TypeBuddy

Getting Started

  1. Open TypeBuddy (appears in your menu bar)
  2. Download an AI model from the Model tab
  3. Use keyboard shortcuts to activate features in any application:
    • ⇧ + ⌘ + / - Inline Assist
    • ⌘ + . - Auto Complete
    • ⌘ + Shift + . - Translation
    • ⌘ + ; - Grammar Check
    • ⌘ + Shift + , - Rewriting

Troubleshooting 🛠️

❗ Features not working in apps?

  • Check that "Enable AI Features" toggle is turned on in the General tab
  • Verify both Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions are granted
  • Restart TypeBuddy
  • Try logging out or restarting your computer

🤔 No AI suggestions appearing?

  • Ensure you have downloaded an AI model in the Model tab
  • Check that the AI Features toggle is enabled in General settings
  • Try using the keyboard shortcuts to manually activate features
  • Restart the app if needed

🐢 Performance issues?

  • Try a smaller AI model (Nano vs Pro) for better performance
  • Close other memory-intensive apps
  • Ensure you have sufficient RAM for your selected model
